Jemimah Rodrigues pulls off a miracle as India complete world record chase to enter Women’s World Cup final

Australia were unbeaten in Women's World Cup for 15 games before their defeat on Thursday

A Jemimah Rodrigues special handed India a world record chase in front of a packed crowd at the DY Patil Stadium. Facing an unbeaten Australia, India chased down a massive 339 with Rodrigues finishing unbeaten on 127. The Women in Blue will now face South Africa in the final on Sunday.

Australia won the toss and opted to bat first with Alyssa Healy returning an injury. While Kranti Gaud sent Healy packing, Phoebe Litchfield and Ellyse Perry ran riot against India’s wayward lengths. Litchfield played the role of an aggressor with the fastest century in women’s knockout matches.

India fought their way back with the spinners, tying the Australians down with their efforts. However a late cameo from Ashleigh Gardner ensured Australia scored past 330. India were guilty of conceding far too many runs from lapses in the field, allowing the visitors to build momentum.

In the chase, India lost Shafali Verma early. Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah stitched a good partnership before the former was caught down the legside. At 60 for 2, India were in a tricky spot.

The duo batted for more than 20 overs to keep India in the hunt. Jemimah raced to a half-century as Harmanpreet Kaur struggled with her timing initially. She eventually took over as aggressor in a 167-run partnership. Harman was eventually dismissed for 89, with India needing more than 8 an over in 14 overs.

Deepti Sharma and Richa Ghosh chipped in with valuable cameos as Jemimah notched up her hundred. She eventually saw the chase off with 9 balls to spare completing a world record chase.

The highest successful chase in a women’s odi was Australia’s 331 against India earlier in the tournament. Jemimah ensured India reversed that, ending Australia’s 15-match unbeaten run in Women’s World Cups.

Women's World Cup: South Africa entered their first final, and will now have to await the winners between IND & AUS.

South Africa inched closer to a maiden Women’s World Cup title with an all-round display on Tuesday. Experienced stars Laura Wolvaardt and Marizanne Kapp made light work of the an in-form England side to clinch a landslide win the first semi-final in Guwahati. It will mark a first World Cup finals experience for the Proteas Women.

Facing an opponent that shot them out for 69 in the tournament opener, South Africa had a job cut out. However, Laura Wolvaardt led the way with a marathon innings in Guwahati. The Proteas captain smashed a sensational 169 of 143 deliveries to ensure South Africa put on a score in excess of 300. Some late hits from Chloe Tryon and Nadine de Klerk ensured they scored 319, after being asked to bat first.

England’s chase was all but over in the matter of 7 deliveries. Marizanne Kapp sent Amy Jones and Heather Knight packing for a duck in the first over. Ayabonga Khaka followed it up with Tammy Beaumont’s wicket to leave England reeling at 1/3. Nat Sciver-Brunt was their only saving grace, who scored a half-century. The all-rounder stitched partnerships with Alice Capsey and Danielle Wyatt-Hodge to keep the scoreboard ticking. However, Kapp returned to put the final nail in the coffin and Brunt was dismissed for 64.

The Women’s World Cup 2025 is South Africa’s 4th semi-final appearance, and their third straight knockout qualification. Their win over England marks their first success in that regard. The Proteas had never reached the final of a tournament in either ODI and t20 world Cup and Sunday will mark their first attempt. They will face the winner of the IND vs AUS semi-final, which will be played on Thursday.

Kapp Overtakes Jhulan Goswami

Kapp, with her five wickets, surpassed Jhulan Goswami as the highest wicket-taker in the Women’s World Cups. The SA all-rounder now has 44 scalps to her name, followed by the Indian at 43, and Megan Schutt and Sophie Ecclestone with 39 and 37, respectively.

Mr. 360 in the cricket world and captain of the Indian T20I cricket team, Suryakumar Yadav, has achieved a unique achievement. He has now become the second Indian player, after Rohit Sharma, to hit 150 sixes in T20I cricket.

Suryakumar Yadav achieved this remarkable feat during the first T20I match against Australia played at the Manuka Oval in Canberra. Suryakumar Yadav secured the record as soon as he hit the second six of his innings against Nathan Ellis in the 10th over of the Indian innings.

Australia vs. India First T20I Match No Result Due to Rain

The first T20I match between Australia and India played in Canberra was abandoned due to rain. After losing the toss and opting to bat first, Team India scored 97 runs for the loss of one wicket in 9.4 overs. After rain halted play for the second time, match officials decided not to continue.
