Shubman Gill: The world record for scoring the most runs in a Test is held by former England captain and opening batsman Graham Gooch.

Shubman Gill: World record as a non-opener

The world record for scoring the most runs in a match in Test cricket is held by former England captain and opening batsman Graham Gooch, who scored 456 runs against India in 1990. However, he made this record as an opening batsman. Talking about non-openers, Shubman Gill made this world record by scoring a total of 430 runs with innings of 269 and 161 runs in the Edgbaston Test. Earlier this record was in the name of Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara, who scored 424 runs against Bangladesh in 2014.
Record in batting at number-4 or below

Shubman Gill also holds the record for scoring the most runs in a Test while batting at number-4 or below. He broke the 51-year-old record of Australia’s Greg Chappell, who scored 380 runs against New Zealand in 1974. Gill scored 50 runs more than Chappell by scoring 430 runs and set this new world record.
