Shubman Gill’s record-breaking performance

25-year-old Indian captain Shubman Gill did wonders in the current Test series against England. He scored 269 runs in the first innings of the second Test and 161 runs in 162 balls with the help of 13 fours and 8 sixes in the second innings. In this way, Gill scored a total of 430 runs in a Test, which is the second highest score made by a batsman in a Test after Graham Gooch’s 456 runs (333 and 123) in 1990. With this, Gill became the second Indian batsman to score a double century and a century in Tests after the legendary Sunil Gavaskar.
Virat Kohli’s praise
Virat Kohli, who retired from Test cricket a month before the England tour and settled in London, expressed happiness over Gill’s achievement. He wrote on X, “Well played ‘Star Boy’. It is amazing to enter your name in history. You fully deserve it.”
India’s strong position

Apart from Gill’s century, half-centuries from KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja helped India declare the second innings at 427 for 6 in the final session of the fourth day. This set a huge target of 608 runs in front of England. Under the leadership of Gill, India is now moving towards a historic victory at Edgbaston.
