Gautam Gambhir’s record as India cricket team head coach

Gautam Gambhir has succeeded Rahul Dravid as India's head coach, and he is now part of the Indian team in all three formats.

Gautam Gambhir’s coaching record can be analysed separately for white-ball and red-ball formats. While the former Indian batter has an impressive record as head coach in white-ball cricket, his Test performance has been underwhelming.

After their series victory over South Africa in the four-match T20I series, India has further strengthened its position as T20 World Cup champions. With India remaining unbeaten in T20Is, let’s take a closer look at Gambhir’s performance so far and review his coaching record to date.

Gambhir joined the Indian team following a successful stint with the Indian Premier League (IPL) team Kolkata Knight Riders, where he guided them to the IPL 2024 title. He will be aiming to achieve more milestones during his tenure as India’s head coach.

Gautam Gambhir’s coaching record in T20Is

Gambhir began coaching Team India in Sri Lanka, which was the first T20I series following the retirements of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli from the shortest format. Gambhir excelled in his debut assignment, as India won all three matches. He’s lost just 2 matches out of the next 17.
