IPL 2026: Ashwin ready to talk about retention with CSK before mini auction

Ashwin

Spinner Ravichandran Ashwin‘s future journey with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is in the news at the moment, let us tell you about this news in detail

Former Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin’s future journey with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is in the news at the moment. Talks are going on continuously regarding retention before the IPL 2026 mini auction.

According to sources, Ashwin has asked the franchise to clarify how he will be included in the team’s plans next season. 37-year-old Ashwin has also indicated that if he is not a part of the team’s long-term plans, he is ready to leave the team.

Ravichandran Ashwin’s IPL journey

Ravichandran was bought by CSK for Rs 9.75 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction, which was his return to his home franchise after almost 10 years. However, this season did not go well for him. He played only 9 of the total 14 league matches, which was the least match-playing season of his career. During this, his economy rate was 9.12, which is the worst record in his IPL history.

Possibility of trade

The date of the IPL 2026 mini auction has not been announced yet, and hence the final date of retention will also depend on it. The mega auction takes place every 3 years, while the mini auction is held every year between November and February. The player trade window remains open till a week before the auction, giving CSK and Ashwin enough time to make a decision for the upcoming season.

Ashwin recently hinted about a possible trade during his YouTube interview with Sanju Samson. Meanwhile, the captaincy of the team is also in the headlines. MS Dhoni took over the captaincy mid-season after Rituraj Gaikwad was injured in 2025.

Recently, Dhoni, Gaikwad and other members of the management held strategy meetings in Chennai, in which captaincy and retention of players were discussed. Ashwin has played 221 matches in the IPL so far, in which he has taken 187 wickets. His IPL career economy rate is 7.29.

Prithvi Shaw went on the wrong path and ruined his career: Rohit Sharma’s coach Dinesh Lad

Prithvi Shaw

Dinesh Lad believes that Prithvi Shaw chose the wrong direction in his career, which affected and spoiled his cricket life, let us tell you about this news in detail

Rohit Sharma’s childhood coach Dinesh Lad believes that Prithvi Shaw chose the wrong direction in his career, which affected and spoiled his cricket life. Prithvi Shaw made his debut in the 2016-17 Ranji Trophy at the age of just 17 and caught everyone’s attention by scoring a century.

He then led India’s Under-19 team to win the World Cup in 2018 and soon became a part of the senior team. Thane-born Prithvi made his Test debut in 2018 and also scored a century in his first match, but due to poor form, he was soon dropped from the team and has not played international cricket since 2021.

Recently his sports career has been going through a difficult phase. Due to poor form and disciplinary issues, he was dropped from the team in the middle of the Ranji Trophy last season and had to leave Mumbai before the new domestic season. He played a few matches in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, but was not selected in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Dinesh Lad told Prithvi Shaw’s journey

Dinesh Lad recalled how Shaw impressed the cricket world with his amazing batting, but he also expressed grief that the player went astray.

In Gaurav Mangalani‘s podcast, Lad said, “I have seen Prithvi since he was 10 years old. He was a very promising player, but every player’s journey is different. I don’t know what happened to him, just today I am very sorry that he chose the wrong path and lost his career.”

Referring to current players like Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Ayush Mhatre, Lad said that the future of Indian cricket is secure and praised these young players. Shaw will now try to get his career back on track by playing for the Maharashtra team. For this, he had sought a no-objection certificate from the Mumbai Cricket Association in June, which was approved.

Craig McMillan: India is missing a player like Hardik Pandya in Test cricket

Craig McMillan

Coach Craig McMillan says that the Indian Test team lacks an all-rounder like Hardik Pandya, especially in overseas conditions, let us tell you about this news in detail

Craig McMillan: New Zealand women’s team head coach Craig McMillan says that the Indian Test team lacks an all-rounder like Hardik Pandya, especially in overseas conditions. Recently, during the series against England, India gave players like Shardul Thakur and Nitish Kumar Reddy a chance, but the performance of both was not impressive.

Hardik Pandya’s Test journey

Pandya played the last Test match in the year 2018 and till now he has played a total of 11 Test matches, where he has scored 532 runs at an average of 31.29 and taken 17 wickets at an average of 31.06.

McMillan believes that India has spin all-rounders like Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar on Asian pitches, but there is no fast all-rounder on foreign grounds, who plays a very important role there. This lack was clearly visible in the team during this series.

McMillan said, “In Asian conditions, it is important to have players like Jadeja, Sundar or Ashwin in earlier times. But in teams like New Zealand, Australia and England, a fast bowler all-rounder plays an important role. India is behind in this matter, because the team does not have a player like Hardik Pandya, who can bowl medium pace and can also come down and bat usefully. England’s Ben Stokes contributes as much as two players.”

Gill got praise

McMillan also praised India’s new Test captain Shubman Gill. He said that Gill captained brilliantly on the England tour, since this was his first series as captain, it is normal to make some mistakes. McMillan further said that Gill is an emerging and good captain. The first series is always challenging.

He may have made some mistakes in the pressure-filled tour, but these will improve with experience. He is the future captain of India, under whose captaincy the series ended in a 2-2 draw against a strong team like England.

ENG vs IND 2025: ‘Bumrah should not have played IPL 2025’ Former selector made a big statement about Jasprit

Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah should not have participated fully in IPL: Dilip Vengsarkar

Former India captain and selector Dilip Vengsarkar believes that Jasprit Bumrah should either not have participated fully in IPL 2025 or should have played very few matches, so that he would be fit to fully participate in England’s Anderson Tendulkar Trophy. In England, he played only 3 out of 5 Test matches, as the management took this decision while handling his workload.

Vengsarkar said that if he was in the panel of selectors of India, he would have met Mumbai Indians owner Mukesh Ambani and talked about how important it is for Jasprit Bumrah to play the entire Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, due to which he will have to miss IPL matches. He believes that if the talks were held in the right way, both of them would have agreed to this.

Out of big tournament due to back injury

It is worth noting that Bumrah played 5 Test matches in the Border Gavaskar Trophy held in Australia, where he suffered a stress fracture in his back due to excessive pressure. Due to this, he could not participate in the Champions Trophy and apart from this, he also missed some matches in the beginning of the IPL and later he joined Mumbai Indians in the middle of the tournament and started playing.

Vengsarkar said that if he was a part of the selection committee, he would have advised Bumrah not to play IPL. He called the Anderson Tendulkar Trophy a very important series and said that it was very important for Bumrah to remain fresh for this series.

Vengsarkar said that he should not be blamed for missing the match, because he has recently undergone surgery, due to which it is very important to take care of him. He also said that questions cannot be raised about Bumrah because whenever he has played for the country, he has given his full contribution with his hard work.

ENG vs IND 2025 Sandeep Patil: ‘When you are selected, you die for your country’ – Patil on Jasprit Bumrah’s workload management

Patil

It is worth noting that Bumrah played just three Tests in the Test series against England.

Former Indian batsman Sandeep Patil spoke on the subject of players’ fitness and stressed that a physio should not be given more importance than the captain. He said that a player should be available whenever needed.

Workload management “nonsense”: Sandeep

Calling workload management “nonsense”, Patil said that cricketers who played for the country gave their lives for the country, and he has seen the likes of Kapil Dev and Sunil Gavaskar of the world working hard on the field even though they did not have access to modern facilities like the current generation of cricketers. He further said that the experienced cricketer used to play despite injuries.

India head coach Gautam Gambhir had informed in a press conference before the start of the England tour that Bumrah will play only three Test matches as the management is keeping a close watch on his workload, especially after he suffered a stress fracture in his back at the end of the 2024-2025 Border-Gavaskar series. Bumrah played the first, third and fourth Tests. He was rested for the fifth Test, which India had to win to level the series.

You die for your country: Patil

Speaking to India Today, Patil said, “I wonder how the BCCI is agreeing to all this? Is the physio more important than the captain or the head coach? What about the selectors? Do we now expect the physio to sit in the selection committee meetings? Will he take the decision?”

“When you are selected for your country, you are ready to die for your country. You are a warrior. I have seen Sunil Gavaskar bat on all five days of the match, I have seen Kapil Dev bowl on most days of a Test match and even bowl for us in the nets. He never asked for a break, never complained, and had a career that spanned over 16 years. After getting hit on the head in Australia in 1981, I did not miss the next Test match,” he said.

WI vs PAK 2nd ODI Justin Greaves: West Indies beat Pakistan by 5 wickets, level series 1-1

Justin Greaves

Roston Chase scored 49 and Justin Greaves remained unbeaten on 26.

Justin Greaves: Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan failed to do well for their team as West Indies secured a 5-wicket win in the rain-affected second ODI of the series on Sunday. Roston Chase and Justin Greaves powered West Indies to a five-wicket win over Pakistan with 10 balls to spare in a rain-curtailed match and levelled the three-match series 1-1.

Chase hit an unbeaten 49 off 47 balls with two sixes and a winning four as West Indies posted 184-5 in 33.2 overs. The hosts were chasing a revised target of 181 in 35 overs under DLS after Pakistan, batting first, ended their innings at 171-7 in 37 overs. Right-arm pacer Jaden Seals took 3-23 in seven overs.

Justin Greaves: Roston Chase was named Player of the Match

Roston Chase was named Player of the Match in the second ODI for his stellar performance with both bat and bowl. In the post-match presentation, Chase said, “Happy with the win, today we had to level the series. It was a bit difficult to start with the spinners. It was also easy to score against the fast bowlers. I love playing shots over extra cover. When he (Greaves) came to the field, I told him that there is still time and once you are set, it will be easy to score runs. I just wanted to score runs and take a wicket for the captain.”

What did both the captains have to say?

Mohammad Rizwan Siyad said, “It was a good effort, the pitch was difficult till the end. The way Rutherford bowled, he got full momentum. We may feel that we have one bowler less, but Saim and Salman are bowling regularly for us and bowling well. We will check the conditions tomorrow and decide on the team combination.”

Winning captain Shai Hope said, “We wanted to come back after the defeat, we wanted to perform better and are happy with today’s win. On the chase, Hope said, he is a great player, he is doing some great things in the ODI format, and is constantly getting better. It was a bit difficult to bat. Sherfane gave us momentum and then Chase and Greaves ensured victory for us.” The decisive third match of the series will be played on Tuesday.

World Cup: There can’t be a more one-sided match than this! Won the 50-over match in 5 balls; 7 batsmen laid eggs; More runs were made from extras than from the batter

World Cup

World Cup: ICC Men’s U19 Cricket World Cup Americas Qualifier 2025 An amazing one-sided match was seen between Canada and Argentina. Canada Under-19 defeated Argentina Under-19 in the ICC Men’s Under-19 Cricket World Cup Americas Qualifier 2025. Canada Under-19 defeated Argentina Under-19 by 10 wickets in the fourth match of the Under-19 Cricket World Cup Americas Qualifier at the ICC in Georgia on Sunday.

World Cup: You must have often seen many one-sided matches on the cricket field, but this time we got to see a match that no one would have even expected. This match took place between Canada and Argentina. Canada Under-19 defeated Argentina Under-19 in the ICC Men’s Under-19 Cricket World Cup Americas Qualifier 2025.

Canada Under-19 defeated Argentina Under-19 by 10 wickets in the fourth match of the Under-19 Cricket World Cup America Qualifier at ICC in Georgia on Sunday. Canada won this 50-over match in just 5 balls.

Team all out for 23 runs

Argentina won the toss and chose to bat first at Paramveer Sports Complex (Ground 2). The team was all out for 23 runs in 19.4 overs. The innings never recovered from the initial setbacks and no batsman could reach double figures. Seven batsmen were out without scoring any runs.

On the other hand, 7 runs were scored from extras. Which was their highest contribution in the innings. Fast bowler Jagmandeep Paul bowled a brilliant spell. He took six wickets for seven runs in 5 overs. Paul bowled 3 maiden overs. Other bowlers also supported him well.

24 runs were needed for victory

Canada team needed 24 runs to win. The team also did not delay in winning the match. Opener Dharam Patel took a run on the first ball of the innings, after which captain Yuvraj Samra hit two fours and two sixes on the next four balls of Franz Boor. Boor also gave three wides in this over, due to which Canada achieved the target with 49.1 overs and 295 balls to spare.

The record could have been broken

This match did not get the status of Youth ODI. If it was an official Youth ODI, it would have challenged the record of the fastest run chase in terms of overs remaining. This record is currently held by Australia Under-19, who chased Scotland’s 22 runs in 3.5 overs in the 2004 Under-19 World Cup.

Canada in strong position

Canada is in a strong position in the America Qualifier. This competition includes Argentina, Bermuda, Canada and hosts America. Each team will play each other twice in a double round-robin format. The top-finishing team will secure the Americas region’s only spot at the 2026 ICC Men’s Under-19 Cricket World Cup.

Reports: Axar Patel may lose vice-captaincy before Asia Cup 2025

Axar Patel: Shubman Gill can become vice-captain.

Axar Patel was appointed India’s vice-captain for the five-match T20 series against England earlier this year. He was rewarded for his consistent performance in the shortest format of the game. The Gujarat all-rounder did not show much with the bat, but he did well with the ball and took six wickets in five matches at an average of 16.50.

Axar impressed both fans and critics with his leadership in the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League. The 31-year-old captained the Delhi Capitals commendably but could not take the team to the playoffs.

Shubman Gill can be made vice-captain

However, despite his good performance as a captain, Axar is reportedly on the verge of losing his vice-captain position in the Indian T20 team. According to a report by RevSportz, Shubman Gill could be made the vice-captain of the Indian T20 team for the upcoming Asia Cup, which will be played in the UAE from September 9 to September 28.

Shubman recently captained India in the five-match Test series against England. The Punjab batsman was the highest run-scorer in the series with 754 runs in 10 innings at an average of 75.40. India performed brilliantly to level the series 2-2.

Axar Patel: Plenty of competition in the Indian team

Interestingly, Shubman has not played any T20 international cricket since July 2024. He has scored 578 runs in 21 T20 internationals at an average of 30.42 and a strike rate of 139.28. Shubman’s return to the team could put Abhishek Sharma’s place in the top order at risk.

Sanju Samson is expected to play as a wicketkeeper-batsman and open the innings. Shubman Gill, who opened the IPL, may also join him in the top order. This may put Abhishek, who was the highest run-scorer in the five-match series against England, out of the race. Yashasvi Jaiswal is also in the race to make it to the team, and this may increase the difficulties for Abhishek.

Ricky Ponting: I love England’s “Badgeball”

Ricky Ponting

Ricky Ponting: The five-match Ashes series is scheduled to begin in November this year.

Former Australian cricketer Ricky Ponting has released a list of English cricketers who will play a key role for his team for the upcoming Australia tour. The five-match series is scheduled to begin in November later this year. Ponting also admitted that despite being an Australian, he is a fan of Badgeball.

Ricky Ponting: “When it first started, it seemed like Root had changed his game, but he started playing like before again. Ollie Pope is naturally aggressive and scores runs quickly. Stokes’ strike rate is probably the lowest since the beginning, while Duckett and Crawley are at the forefront. This team will probably play a key role in Australia,” Ponting was quoted as saying by The Times.

England’s top order has to play well: Ricky Ponting

He further said, “If they can bat well in the top order and settle things, it will give them a good chance in the series. England naturally plays like this, and it settles everything for them, which immediately puts pressure on the bowlers. You have to adjust very quickly.”

Ponting said, “I am just like any other Australian and I love watching them play. The last time they came here, the Australian team adopted it and learned about it. Now they will understand that this is a slightly better version of what England started a few years ago.”

England last won the Ashes in Australia in the 2010/11 season. Since that 1-3 win, England have failed to win any Test series in Australia. The 2023-25 World Test Championship runners-up will try to maintain that record in the upcoming series.
