Akashdeep wreaked havoc on the British, sent Leeds centurions to the pavilion on ducks; missed a hat-trick
AkashDeep strikes early in Edgbaston: He has taken full advantage of the opportunity he got in the second Test against England. The Indian team, batting first at Edgbaston, has scored a huge score of 587 runs in the first innings. In response, England had a blistering start and scored 12 runs in the very first over. This over was bowled by Akashdeep. However, after this, in the very next over, he made up for it and sent two England batsmen to the pavilion on consecutive balls.

On the fourth ball of the third over of the innings, he got Ben Duckett caught out at third slip. In an attempt to play this ball outside the off stump from a distance, Duckett’s bat hit the outside edge and captain Shubman Gill took a brilliant catch while diving. After this, on the next ball, Akashdeep put another big wicket in India’s bag in the form of Ollie Pope. Pope tried to flick this full ball outside the off stump but the ball took the outside edge of his bat and went into the hands of KL Rahul at second slip.
Akashdeep was on the verge of a hat-trick
By taking two wickets on two consecutive balls, he was on the verge of a hat-trick. Joe Root, who is currently the best batsman in the world in Test cricket, came to face his hat-trick ball. he bowled him a bit ordinary hat-trick ball. He bowled a very full ball to Root on the line of the stump which he easily pushed to cover. Even though Akashdeep’s hat-trick could not be completed, he gave India a great start by taking two wickets on consecutive balls.
In this Test match, India had decided to play without Jasprit Bumrah. After this, Akashdeep has been able to make a place in the playing eleven. He has taken full advantage of almost every opportunity he has got so far. The Indian team will also hope that in the absence of Bumrah, Akashdeep takes as many wickets as possible for them.
