Team India will not tour Bangladesh this year, BCCI extended the tour schedule

BCCI

BCCI : Team India will not go to Bangladesh for the limited overs series in August 2025. This tour has been postponed.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday confirmed that India’s tour of Bangladesh has been postponed. There was speculation about the postponement of this tour proposed in August 2025 for some time, and now it has been officially confirmed. The ongoing geopolitical tension in Bangladesh is believed to be a major reason for this postponement. India and Bangladesh were to play a series of three ODIs and three T20 Internationals, which has now been postponed till September 2026.

Joint decision of BCCI and BCB

The BCCI said in its statement, “The BCCI and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) have mutually decided to postpone the series of three ODIs and three T20 Internationals proposed in August 2025 to September 2026. This decision was taken after intensive discussions between the two boards, taking into account the international cricket commitments of both the teams and the convenience of the schedule. The BCB looks forward to welcoming India for this much-awaited series in September 2026. The new dates and schedule of the tour will be announced in due course.”

Original schedule of the tour

The BCB announced the schedule of India’s tour of Bangladesh in April. Under this, ODI matches were to be played on 17, 20 and 23 August and T20 matches on 26, 29 and 31 August in Mirpur and Chittagong. Recently, BCB President Aminul Islam expressed uncertainty about the tour, after which this decision to postpone was taken.

Disappointment of fans and schedule of players

The postponement of this tour has disappointed fans of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, as both now play only ODI cricket, having retired from Test and T20. Now both of them will be seen playing for the Indian team in the ODI series against South Africa in November 2025. On the other hand, the postponement of the Bangladesh series may give India’s top players a chance to participate in the Duleep Trophy starting in August, which will be the beginning of the Indian domestic cricket season.
