Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has recently approved the proposal of Karnataka Housing Board. Under this, a magnificent sports complex will be built in Surya City of Bommasandra, Bengaluru, which will also have a cricket stadium with a capacity of 80,000 people. This project will be built for about Rs 1,650 crore and its entire funding will be done by Karnataka Housing Board, and no money will be taken from the state government in this entire project. This sports complex will be spread over 100 acres and facilities for both indoor and outdoor sports will be available here. Apart from the stadium, facilities for 8 indoor and 8 outdoor sports, modern gyms, training centers, swimming pools, guest houses, hostels, three and five star hotels and a large conference hall for international events will also be built here.
The decision to shift the stadium to another place was taken on 4 June 2025 itself. Let us tell you that this decision was taken after the stampede outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium during the celebration of RCB’s IPL victory, in which 11 people died and many were injured. During the investigation, it was revealed that the existing 32,000 capacity and 17-acre stadium is not suitable for big events. Therefore, it was suggested to move it to an open and better place.
Cricket Stadium: CM’s opinion on the matter
The CM said that “the government has not made any mistake and action has been taken against the culprits. Also, he is considering building the stadium at another place.” Five police officers have been suspended in this case, and the intelligence chief and the political secretary of the Chief Minister have also been changed.
Many new schemes are coming up in the field of sports in Bengaluru. The BDA has also invited tenders for a new modern stadium at K. Shivarama Karanth Layout in the northern part of the city.
