‘Shahid Afridi has eaten dog meat’ – Irfan Pathan’s statement in Pakistan that shocked everyone
Irfan Pathan ended the 2006 Pakistan tour with 17 wickets.
Whenever Irfan Pathan’s name comes up, one of the most recent memories associated with this former all-rounder is when he devastated the Pakistani top order by taking a hat-trick in the very first over of the Karachi Test on the 2006 Karachi tour.

However, this tour was memorable for Irfan Pathan not only for his brilliant bowling but also for the argument he had with star Pakistani player Shahid Afridi.
While this tour was going on, both the teams were traveling in the same flight from Karachi to Lahore. The journey to Lahore was going to be heated due to the argument in the flight between the top all-rounders of the Pakistani team.
However, Irfan handled himself well from this awkward situation presented to him by Afridi. During a recent conversation, Irfan told how this incident happened.
The incident is from the 2006 Pakistan tour
In an interview to Lallantop, he said, “During the 2006 tour, we were going from Karachi to Lahore. Both teams were traveling together. Shahid Afridi came and messed up my hair by putting his hand on my head. He asked me, ‘How are you kid?’ I thought, since when did he become my father. He was behaving like a child. I was neither talking to him nor saying anything. After this Afridi said something bad to me. His seat was next to mine.”
“Later, Pakistani all-rounder Abdul Razzaq was sitting next to me. I asked him what kind of meat is available here. He told me that meat of different animals is available. So I asked if dog meat is available. Hearing me, a surprised Razzaq asked, ‘Hey Irfan, why are you asking this?’
He never said anything to me again: Irfan Pathan
I replied that Afridi has eaten dog meat, he is barking for so long. After this Afridi could not say anything. If he would have said something, I would have said, ‘Look, he is barking more.’ After this he remained silent throughout the flight. He understood from this incident that he would not be able to fight me verbally. So he never said anything to me again,” Irfan told.
It is worth noting that Irfan Pathan has a great bowling record against Afridi. Both have faced each other a total of 23 times in professional cricket, and the left-arm fast bowler has faced Afridi a total of nine times.
However, the contest has not always been one-sided. Afridi has also batted at a tremendous strike rate of 149.35 against the Indian Afridi and has hit 28 fours and nine sixes during this period. Both have now retired from international cricket.
