‘Farewell match tha’: Gautam Gambhir teases Rohit Sharma; video goes viral

Rohit Sharma looked quite adamant as he grined out a fifty in the second one-day international in Adelaide against Australia.

A light-hearted exchange between Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir and Rohit Sharma has become the talking point of India’s ongoing ODI series against Australia. A short clip doing the rounds on social media shows Gambhir telling Rohit, “Rohit, sabko lag rha tha ki aaj farewell match thha, ek photo to lagaa do.” The video has gone viral, possibly after the second ODI in Adelaide. It looks like it is being shot by a fan at the team’s hotel in Australia.

The remark, which seems to be said in jest, has created plenty of chatter among fans already speculating about Rohit’s future in ODI cricket. Ever since being stripped of the captaincy, the veteran opener has found himself under a magnifying glass, with questions swirling around his spot in India’s plans for the 2027 ODI World Cup.

Rohit, who returned to the national side after a seven-month break, had a difficult outing in the series opener at Perth, scoring just eight runs. But in Adelaide, he looked far more assured, crafting a patient 73 that carried shades of his vintage touch. Partnering Shreyas Iyer, who scored 61, Rohit helped India post 264 for 9. Though Australia went on to chase down the total and seal the series, the knock would give massive relief to Rohit, who has been under pressure to score runs alongside Virat Kohli.
