‘Is he not even entitled to 5 reserve places’ Aakash Chopra after Shreyas Iyer not being selected in Asia Cup

Aakash Chopra: The BCCI has announced the team for the Asia Cup through a press conference.

Aakash Chopra: On Tuesday, 19 August 2025, the BCCI announced the Asia Cup 2025 squad, which did not include Shreyas Iyer’s name. The Asia Cup will be played in the UAE from 9 September to 28 September, where chief selector Ajit Agarkar and India’s T20 team captain Suryakumar Yadav revealed the names of the 15 selected players in front of the media. At the same time, former India player Aakash Chopra has raised questions after not seeing Shreyas’ name included.

Chopra said that Iyer could not have done much more to make a place in the team, and if he continues to perform well in ODIs and domestic cricket, he is likely to be selected for the 2026 T20 World Cup.

Shreyas Iyer will be part of 2026 World Cup: Aakash Chopra

Shreyas Iyer not being in the team is a big deal. What more does Shreyas Iyer have to do? What more can you do than what you have already done? You scored 600-plus runs in an IPL season, took the team to the last stage of the final, scored runs in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, played Ranji and won the Champions Trophy. That’s all you can do as a human being,” Chopra said on his YouTube channel.

Aakash further said, “This is the Asia Cup team. Don’t connect it to the World Cup, because after that there are 15 T20 matches. The world changes in 15 T20 matches. If he keeps scoring runs in ODIs, sooner or later Shreyas Iyer will definitely be part of the T20 team. I am sure Shreyas Iyer will definitely be part of India’s T20 World Cup 2026 team.

Iyer’s name is not even among the reserve players

Akash Chopra said in surprise, “Shreyas’ name is not even among the five reserve players. It is understandable that you cannot keep him in 15, but you wanted lower order batsmen as backup. However, at least a place could have been made for him in the reserve players, where the selectors have kept Dhruv Jurel, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Prasidh Krishna. This player’s name could have been there, doesn’t he deserve this place too?”

Harshit Rana: Aakash Chopra put his point of view

Recently, through a video uploaded on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra said, “No, Siraj will be played in ODIs as well. He will have to wait a bit in T20Is. Harshit Rana is not a better bowler, because if that were the case, he would have played in the playing XI in all three formats. He sits out.

I would not say that he is a better bowler than Siraj or his records are better than Siraj. At this time, it seems that things sometimes go in his favor, but Siraj is a better bowler. If one does man-to-man marking, then Siraj is definitely better.

It is worth noting that the upcoming season of Asia Cup 2025 is starting from 9 September in UAE. The first match will be played between Afghanistan and Hong Kong. So, the Indian team will start its title campaign with a match against UAE on 10 September.

Cheteshwar Pujara: “আমি রঞ্জি ট্রফি খেলতে চেয়েছিলাম”: অবসরের পর পূজারার চমকপ্রদ প্রকাশ

Cheteshwar Pujara:

Cheteshwar Pujara:

Cheteshwar Pujara:

AUS vs SA 3rd ODI: Proteas suffer crushing 276-run defeat, but win series 2-1

AUS vs SA

AUS vs SA 3rd ODI: Cooper Connolly took five wickets.

AUS vs SA 3rd ODI: Australia escaped a clean sweep by winning the third and final ODI by a big margin of 276 runs. Australia posted a mammoth 431 runs after winning the toss and batting first.

AUS vs SA 3rd ODI: Australia scored their second-highest ODI total while batting first and fell short of their all-time best by just four runs. Mitchell Marsh, Travis Head and Cameron Green hit brilliant centuries, while a 250-run stand for the first wicket put South Africa under pressure.

AUS vs SA 3rd ODI: Alex Carey ended Australia’s innings with an unbeaten half-century. For South Africa, it was a disappointing performance in bowling – Keshav Maharaj and Senuran Muthusamy picked up a wicket each, and while Corbin Bosch did well in his spell, overall the bowlers disappointed a lot.

AUS vs SA 3rd ODI: South Africa looked under pressure throughout

Chasing 400+ runs is always a mountain to climb, and South Africa’s openers looked under pressure right from the start, falling cheaply in no time. Temba Bavuma tried to respond with some aggressive shots, but his composure didn’t last long, leaving the hosts faltering at 50/4.

Tony de Zorzi and Dewald Brevis batted well for a while, putting on 57 runs, but with the required run rate rising, they had no choice but to take risks – both batsmen fell in the attempt, with Brevis very close to a half-century. The innings then fell apart completely, and what looked like control at 124/5 went completely awry as they crumbled for a paltry 155, losing the match by a big margin of 276 runs.

Keshav Maharaj became Player of the Series

Travis Head was named Player of the Match for his brilliant innings of 142 runs, while Keshav Maharaj was named Player of the Series for his excellent bowling throughout the series.

Rinku Singh Shares How Shah Rukh Khan’s Thoughtful Gesture Helped Him Handle T20 World Cup Disappointment

Rinku Singh

Rinku Singh shared a touching anecdote about how Shah Rukh Khan supported him after he was named in the standby list for the 2024 T20 World Cup.

Shah Rukh Khan’s Heartwarming Gesture for Rinku Singh

Rinku Singh

Shah Rukh Khan, co-owner of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), is as beloved in cricket circles as he is in Bollywood. Recently, KKR star Rinku Singh shared a touching moment involving the superstar after missing out on Team India’s squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup. Though named as a reserve, Rinku was asked to handle visa formalities and was offered the chance to travel alongside Shah Rukh Khan.

Hailing from Uttar Pradesh, Rinku felt shy and initially tried to decline the actor’s kind gesture, highlighting his humility and respect for the Bollywood icon.

Rinku Singh on how Shah Rukh Khan helped him get over T20 World Cup snub

Speaking to RevSportz, Rinku Singh recalled the moment he got to travel with Shah Rukh Khan after missing out on India’s main squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup. “I wasn’t selected in the main squad — I was on the standby list. The team had already left, and I had to go for visa formalities. Sir (Shah Rukh Khan) also had to leave the next day. My flight had already been booked, and I was about to leave alone. Somehow, either Sir or Pooja ma’am found out, and they said I should travel with Sir. I was completely nervous — like, ‘I’m going to travel alone with Sir? How will I handle myself? What will I say?’ I tried so many times to refuse,” he said.

But once Sir had said it, how could I say no? In the car, he gave me a lot of encouragement. That season wasn’t going too well for me, so he explained things, gave me support, and motivated me a lot. For the first time, I sat in a charter flight — and that too with Sir. Those two hours were incredible. So many beautiful things happened,” Rinku added.

Rinku has since earned a spot in India’s Asia Cup 2025 squad, set to be held in the UAE from September 9-28.

“Retaining Mohammed Siraj would have complicated things…” – RCB’s Mo Bobat explains why the franchise let go of the India pacer.

"Retaining Mohammed Siraj would have complicated things…" – RCB’s Mo Bobat explains why the franchise let go of the India pacer.

RCB Parts Ways with Mohammed Siraj Ahead of IPL 2025 Mega Auction. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) Director of Cricket, Mo Bobat, has finally addressed the team’s decision to release Mohammed Siraj ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Earlier this year, RCB ended an 18-year wait to win their maiden IPL title, defeating Punjab Kings (PBKS) in a memorable final.

Ahead of the new season, the franchise made significant changes to their squad. They retained Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar, and Yash Dayal, with Patidar being appointed the team’s new captain.

However, in a move that surprised many fans, RCB chose not to retain Mohammed Sirajj. The right-arm pacer, who had been with the team since IPL 2018 and had been consistently retained over the years, was not only released but also went unbid in the mega auction.

Mo Bobat Explains Why RCB Released Mohammed Siraj

"Retaining Mohammed Siraj would have complicated things…" – RCB’s Mo Bobat explains why the franchise let go of the India pacer.

In an interview with Cricbuzz, RCB Director of Cricket Mo Bobat discussed the team’s decision not to retain Mohammed Siraj ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. He revealed that the management had lengthy discussions regarding Siraj, but several factors ultimately led to his release. One key consideration was their strong interest in acquiring Bhuvneshwar Kumar at the auction, which made retaining Siraj challenging.

“Mohammed Siraj is probably the player we spent the most time deliberating over. Indian international bowlers are not easy to come by. We weighed every option—whether to retain him, release him, or use the Right to Match. It was not a straightforward decision,” Bobat said.

He added, “We were keen on bringing in Bhuvi to bowl at both ends of the innings. Retaining Mohammed Siraj would have made that difficult. There’s never just one reason; multiple factors come into play.”

At the IPL 2025 mega auction, RCB secured Josh Hazlewood for ₹12.50 crores and Bhuvneshwar Kumar for ₹10.75 crores, while Siraj was bought by Gujarat Titans (GT) for ₹12.25 crores.

Hazlewood was the team’s highest wicket-taker, claiming 22 wickets in 12 matches, while Bhuvneshwar took 17 wickets in 14 games. Siraj, representing GT, picked up 15 wickets in 14 matches with an economy rate of 9.24.

Rajeev Shukla: “Yash Chopra had called me to get some help” – BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla’s reveals how he played a massive role in Chak De India

Rajeev Shukla

Rajeev ShuklaBCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla revealed an interesting story of how he contributed to the Bollywood sports drama film ‘Chak De India’. The movie was produced under the Yash Raj Films banner and released in 2007. Notably, Rajeev Shukla was the manager of the senior Indian men’s cricket team at the time.

The late Yash Raj Chopra was a well-known Indian film director and film producer. The movie Chak De India was based on a story around the Indian women’s national hockey team. In a recent interview uploaded on UP T20 League’s YouTube channel, Shukla recalled how he had played a key role in the making of the film.

“Chak De India had a very good concept. I remember Yash Chopra had called me to get some help from the Women’s Hockey Federation for permission and the national stadium for shooting. Then I took him, and they got the permission. I went to watch the shooting as well. I did not think that it would become such a brilliant movie,” he said.

The BCCI vice-president also revealed that the Indian cricket team, which was in England for a series back then, had asked him to take them to the movie in Manchester. He recalled how Yash Chopra returned the favor and arranged a special show for the team to watch the movie in Manchester, which was also followed by dinner.

Notably, veteran Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan had played the lead role in the film. Rajeev Shukla shares a strong bond with Shah Rukh. He also recalled how the players once requested to watch a play called ‘Bombay Dreams’ during an overseas tour. As it was not easy to arrange for it, Shukla had reached out to Shah Rukh, who spoke to renowned Indian choreographer Farah Khan, who then reached out to the makers and made arrangements.

“I called Shah Rukh. He told me that Farah Khan was the choreographer and spoke to her. The makers of the play then invited our team to watch it, and they arranged dinner as well. We took the entire Indian team to watch the play then. I would not call it a weird request, but it was genuine. Sachin, Rahul, Ganguly, and Dhoni were all in the team,” he added.

The third edition of the UP T20 League is taking place at the moment. Rajeev Shukla was the visionary behind the introduction of this state-based franchise tournament.

Rajeev Shukla reveals about Sachin Tendulkar’s fan following abroad

In the same conversation, Rajeev Shukla recalled some instances that highlight legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar’s fan following outside of India. He remembered how the British crowd had once gathered outside the Indian dressing room to get Tendulkar’s autograph.

“I remember when I was the manager, the English crowd put up lines outside the dressing room for Sachin Tendulkar’s autograph. They would not rush in but stand in a queue. They give respect to outside players as well and are fans. That is an excellent culture there. Every day, we would receive a lot of letters. Most were from the Britishers, and they would send us their ideas,” he said.

He shared another instance, where former Manchester United chairman Bobby Charlton had invited Tendulkar to watch a football game. Rajeev Shukla added that Charlton had also gifted Tendulkar a book on the English football club’s history.

“Back when Bobby Charlton was the chairman of Manchester United, England had won the Football World Cup once under him, and he is a hero there. He had invited Sachin once to come and watch a game. Sachin took us as well. Myself, Yuvraj, and Harbhajan went with him. Bobby Charlton received Sachin and gifted him a big book on MU’s history,” he stated.

During India’s recently concluded tour of England, the team met the current Manchester United side ahead of the fourth Test. It was an exciting crossover as the players exchanged jerseys, played both sports, and shared some fun and light moments.
