If this happens, he will replace former coach Chandrakant Pandit, who recently decided to leave KKR.
This news update is based on reports from Crictracker
It is worth noting that Nayar previously worked as an assistant coach with KKR and played a key role in the team’s victory in IPL 2024. He subsequently joined the Indian team, but was relieved of this role by the BCCI following the Indian team’s disappointing performance in the Border-Gavaskar series last year.
Following this, he returned to the KKR management setup and worked closely with head coach Chandrakant Pandit and mentor Dwayne Bravo. However, KKR may appoint Abhishek Nayar as the team’s head coach before the upcoming IPL 2026 season.
Abhishek Nayar’s Journey with KKR
Nair joined KKR in 2018. He initially helped nurture young players by managing the KKR Academy in Mumbai. Nair helped recruit players like Varun Chakravarthy and Rinku Singh to the team, who later emerged as some of KKR’s biggest match-winners.
However, earlier this year, Nair was appointed head coach of the UP Warriors in the Women’s Premier League (WPL). It will be interesting to see whether he will have to leave the team to take up the role of head coach at KKR.
